History of Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria
1945: Grandpa Rudy Malnati helped create the original deep dish recipe that is still used to this day.
1971: Lou Malnati opened the first and second Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria in Lincolnwood and Elk Grove Village.
1978: Lou Malnati met with an untimely death when he fell victim to cancer. Sons, Marc and Rick along with their mother Jean continue the family business.
1979-89: Malnati’s expands to Wilmette, Northbrook, Schaumburg, Buffalo Grove and Chicago’s River North.
1983: Lou Malnati’s begins the 25-year tradition of being a vendor
at the “Taste of Chicago”
1992: Lou Malnati’s starts a mail order division for shipping pizzas across the
continental United States.
1995: The Malnati’s open a restaurant on the West side of Chicago in Lawndale, in an effort to
participate in bringing commercial health back to the neighborhood.
1997: Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria celebrates their 25th Anniversary.
2001: Lou Malnati’s opens 20th store in the Chicago land area.
2002: Lou Malnati's Pizzeria
celebrates their 30th Anniversary.
2005: Lou Malnati's opens its 22nd store in the Chicagoland area.
