In 1971, Lou and Jean Malnati hosted their first benefit raising money for a scholarship fund in memory of their friend, legendary Chicago Bears running back, Brian Piccolo. After Lou also fell victim to cancer in 1978, the Malnati family dedicated themselves to funding cancer research and treatment programs, and created the Lou Malnati Cancer Research Foundation.

Today, after a transformational donation to the Northwestern Brain Tumor Institute, the Lou Malnati Cancer Research Foundation is proud to introduce the newly renamed Northwestern Medicine Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute.

By making this contribution, our goal is to help the Northwestern Medicine Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute attract and retain even more world class talent, who have the capability to both create breakthroughs in battling brain tumors and advance patient care in the neuroscience field. We believe that our “dream team” will become one of the top three brain tumor institutes in the country.

This gift also honors the heartfelt giving and tradition of generosity that Lou and Jean established.

Watch Jean accept special recognition for the newly named Northwestern Medicine Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute.
